My Top 14 Ways to Reduce My Stress and Be My Best (In no particular order)

An informal list of 14 activities or mindsets that came to me when I was asked to make a personal list of what one can do to reduce stress.

  1. I don’t have to figure it out.

  2. Craft “neutral cognitions” towards making things seem not so black or white.

  3. Engage in movement: Stand, stretch, walk, exercise, flex, hike, walk outside, etc.

  4. Control/no control: Focus only on the aspects of a situation for which I do have control.

  5. So much of life appears to be random. Go forward anyway, and live a good life.

  6. I can always “runaway” (However that gets defined!)

  7. A feeling is not a fact.

  8. Probably no one cares about this situation (or even notices it) like I do.

  9. I have no fixed essence- like everyone, I’m continually changing, minute by minute.

  10. I want to look for a "good" decision, not "the best" decision.

  11. Offer people what they say they need or want, not what you think they should have.

  12. Many people don’t share my beliefs or values, but we all share our humanity.

  13. Live my life, not the lives of others.

  14. If others can’t take a joke, well, that’s their loss.
